To remember the background information of Community members you can use of profile variables. This way you don't always have to know known information and you can draw samples based on this information. Examples of these are the gender, age category or education level of the members.
Quickly create profile variables
In Survey, go to the survey you want to use as an enrollment questionnaire. More information about creating a survey can be found in the Survey Guide.
- In Survey, go to 'Questions' and 'Questionnaire' and hover your mouse over the question you want to use as a profile variable. Click on 'Edit'.
- Click on the drop-down menu under 'Profile variable'.
- Select 'New' or select a profile variable previously created in Community. Note: if you use a profile variable via Community that you do not answer options in Survey. Adding extra options is possible in Community in the menu to 'Profiles' and 'Variables'.
- Click on 'Save' to save the question.
- Do you want to check the variable? To do this, go to Community in the menu 'Profiles' and 'Variables'.
Set making background data editable
Profile variables can be changeable, such as a city. To community members You can have this adjusted yourself in Community in the menu under 'Profiles' and 'Variables' adjust the status of profile variables. In the column 'In Profile' you have three options: 'Invisible', 'Visible' and 'Editable'. Set per variable what applies to. By default, each profile variable is set to 'Invisible'. The community member will see this information on the profile page once it is set to 'Visible' or 'Editable'.
Variables update research
To update profile variables you can make a copy of the subscription questionnaire to make. By taking a sample you can select the desired community members re-enter data. The answers given are visible to the respondent and can be customized as desired.
Manually adjust profile variables
In Community, go to 'Profiles' and 'Export' in the menu. Download what you want file. Edit the desired data in the file and save the file as csv file. In the menu go to 'Profiles' and 'Import'. After linking the profile variables, the desired data has been adjusted.
Profile variables in emails
In Survey, you can use profile variables in your email communication. Read more about Email Management.
Once you have created profile variables, a hamburger menu will appear in the top-left corner of your survey: Icoon_Dataverrijking.png. Click this menu to select the desired profile variable. You can then easily copy and paste it into your email. The variable will automatically be filled with the corresponding member’s response.
It is also possible to use profile variables in emails within Community. To do this, go to ‘Email’ in the Community menu. You can add variables using the following notation: [[VARIABLE]]. Replace VARIABLE with the name of the desired profile variable, for example: [[NAME]].
Please note the following:
- Only open and numeric variables are supported.
- When using a multi-field input question, only the answer to the first field will be shown.
- For single-response and multi-response variables, ‘n/a’ will be shown by default.
